Kiunga Community Conservancy is located in Kiunga ward, Lamu East, Lamu County. The conservancy was registered in the year 2013 as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) then in 2018 changed to company limited under the company Act (Cap 486). The total population in the area is approximately 3,925 people whose main economic activity is fishing, tourism and subsistence farming.
The conservancy is governed by a 13-member board elected from all the villages in the conservancy. Other stakeholders such as Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Kenya Fisheries and the area chief also sit on the board as Ex officials. The board meets quarterly to deliberate on issues and decision making or when there is an urgent issue that needs immediate address.
The board has 3 sub-committees namely finance, peace and conflict resolution and fisheries. The conservancy has 24 staff, 20 of which are rangers. The management implements board decisions and the day-to-day running of the conservancy. At the top of the organization structure is the community which elects the conservancy board. The management follows and is responsible for the implementation of Board resolutions and the day-to-day running of the conservancy. Financial management and accountability are done monthly, the manager has been trained to use quick book software for all financial recording, and generation of financial documents like cash book and reporting. Under the management is the security team (conservancy rangers) who are headed by the conservancy warden. Their main duties include daily wildlife monitoring, Wildlife COMMs and Marine COMMs data entry, security patrols, and anti-poaching campaigns, among others.
ORGANIZATION HISTORY
KIBODO, this was the first name of the organization which stand for Kiunga, Boni and Dodori organization Trust.KIBODO Trust was established in 2004 and seeks to help conserve the Kiunga Marine National Reserve, Boni Forest and Dodori National Reserve, while improving the standard of living of the people in the area. Activities focus on capacity building and initiation of alternative livelihoods strategies for the Boni and Bajuni communities currently dependent on natural resources. Trust has potential to fill a vacuum in the area of social, support and advocacy services that will be particularly important as the area open up to development.

Kiunga Community Conservancy (KICOCO) is one of the forty- three (43) community conservancies under the umbrella of NRT, located in Lamu county at the northernmost part of the Kenyan coast, bordering Somalia. It operates over an area of approximately 72,000 ha in Kiunga ward.
