It gives me a great pleasure to speak achievements and wonderful job that Kiunga community conservancy has been doing. I convey my sincere acknowledgment of the significant importance of the ongoing collaborative effort that has convened various stakeholders. Moreover, the magnitude of this endeavor cannot be overstated and as a chairperson of Kiunga community conservancy I actually aware of its significance. Moving forward I duly recognize and commended the exemplary partnership existing between the Kenya Wildlife Service and the local community, acknowledging their presence in both Kiunga and Kiwayu. Through conservancy we have been able to build the capacity of fishing communities within the Kiunga – a marine protected park, address illegal fishing and promote sustainable practices to protect our valuable marine ecosystems’.

For the first time, Kiunga community conservancy have successful launched Kiunga Fishing gear exchange program. The fishing gear exchange program is an innovative approach that offers local fishermen an opportunity to exchange their illegal nets for more sustainable fishing gear. The program aims to eliminate the beach seine fishery from the reserve by 2025’. Said Mr. Ali Shali.
